This 2 days Rwanda safari takes you to the only savannah park in Rwanda- Akagera national park which is located about 2.5 hours from Kigali city. The tour offers an ultimate experience of wildlife viewing around the park. Akagera national park is home to a number of big game including elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos and lions. Rhinos are also present and can be sighted on a lucky day. The park’s landscape is great for photography.
Detailed itinerary of the 2 days Akagera safari
Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Akagera national park
Right after having breakfast at the lodge, you will set off to Akagera national park. It is a scenic drive through the land dominated by numerous hills and so you can stop over anywhere for a photo en-route. Check in to the park and enjoy a short game drive as you head to your lodge. After having breakfast, you will go for the boat cruise on Lake Ihema where you will watch several hippos, crocodiles and different bird species. Return to the lodge for the overnight.

Day 2: Game drive & return to Kigali city
Rise up early and take a cup of coffee, then drive to the plains of Akagera national park where you have great opportunities of encountering large herds of animals more so the giraffes, antelopes and buffaloes among others. The recently re-introduced rhinos and lions are one of the most sought-after wildlife in the park. You will also spot various bird species including savannah birds and water birds among others.
Enjoy your packed lunch after the long drive and embark on the return journey to Kigali city. The driver will drop you at your lodge, place of residence or Kigali airport. Meal plan: breakfast and lunch.
