Rwanda Wins The “Best Tourism Infrastructure Award”

Africa Tourism Awards Rwanda

London, UKRwanda has added a prestigious new accolade to its growing list of international achievements, winning the “Best Tourism Infrastructure Award” at the 2025 Africa Tourism Awards (also known as the Balearica Awards), held in London on November 5, 2025.

The award, which was a special recognition conferred upon the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), celebrates the country’s strategic and sustained investment in world-class facilities, positioning it as a continental leader for both leisure and high-level business tourism.

World-Class Facilities Drive Recognition

The win is a testament to Rwanda’s deliberate focus on high-quality, modern infrastructure designed to support its vision of high-value, low-volume tourism.

Key projects cited for their impact include:

  • The iconic Kigali Convention Centre and surrounding modern skyline, which has cemented Kigali’s status as a top destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE).
  • The ongoing development of the Bugesera International Airport, a major project designed to significantly boost the country’s air connectivity and capacity to handle international visitors.
  • A widespread network of luxury eco-lodges and five-star hotels that blend modern amenities with sustainable, conservation-focused practices, particularly around its renowned National Parks like Volcanoes National Park.

A Model for Sustainable Growth

Officials from the Rwanda Development Board, who accepted the award at the Hilton London Canary Wharf ceremony, highlighted that the infrastructure success is intrinsically linked to the country’s conservation-forward economic strategy. By focusing on premium facilities, Rwanda has been able to attract high-end visitors, ensuring the tourism sector remains the country’s leading source of foreign exchange and directly supports thousands of jobs.

“This recognition is not just about concrete and glass; it is about the vision, governance, and innovation that transforms a small, landlocked nation into a global reference point for sustainable tourism,” an RDB representative stated at the event.

The Africa Tourism Awards aim to celebrate excellence and innovation across the continent’s travel industry, with Rwanda’s win underscoring how infrastructure quality has become central to Africa’s competitiveness in the global tourism market.

Rwanda’s commitment to safety, efficiency, and service excellence, built upon a solid infrastructural foundation, is proving to be a winning model, promising continued strong growth for its tourism sector well into 2026.
